Economists Online - for researchers
Unlocking the research of Europe's top economists

One of the prime aims of Nereus is to unlock new content to the scientific community and make it more easily accessible. Nereus started with this initiative in the form of the pilot project Economists Online.

Near to seventy of Europe’s top economists’ complete research output are visible, accessible and searchable in a new form via Economists Online.
This will be expanded in the future to include 500 names from at least 20 institutions as part of the NEEO Project running from 2007-2010.

Showcasing top economics research in Europe
Researchers’ personal or departmental web pages, research communities, journals and their digital reference databases as well as search engines are increasingly giving easier access to the researcher’s work. Economists Online, however, has begun to bring together a unique combination of research results and resources. It:

  • Digitally stores them.
  • Gives access to the references and full-text of some of Europe’s top research via one simple search service.
  • Contains highly-ranked scientific content.

In doing this, the Nereus search service is already showcasing some of Europe’s top economics research in a new setting, with much more research on the way from University College London, Oxford University, Carlos III Madrid and others via the NEEO Project, 2007-2010.

Economising on time
Libraries can help the researcher save time with desk research and administrative processes so that the researcher can focus more on essential research activities.

Economists Online provides digital access to full-text articles for immediate full content retrieval saving time on:

  • Retrieving new content for your own research by accessing the latest post-prints of journal articles (the last author version after peer-review) even without access to the license of a particular journal, conference proceedings, chapters, working papers or pre-prints .
  • Giving access to your research more widely,
  • Accessing older research articles which can be newly digitised to save time and money on reproduction costs.

Economists Online and NEEO will create individual comprehensive publication reference lists and web pages for the researcher with links to as much full-text as legally possible under copyright constraints, linkable to personal and institutional web pages.

The content will be stored in local repositories (databases) and libraries will make the content accessible for inclusion in search engines and archives run by Google Scholar and RePEc, ensuring further visibility to the researchers’ work.
