How will it work?
The model for Economists Online is a simple but powerful one. All the academic institutions involved in the project have an institutional repository (IR) – a digital archive of academic work produced by members of the organisation. You will deposit copies of your work in your local IR and Economists Online will then pick up (or 'harvest') these publications, making them cross-searchable and accessible from a central portal.
Do publishers allow this?
Yes. The majority of publishers do allow authors to deposit copies of their work in an IR. Economists Online will offer extensive IPR advice and documentation for authors, drawing on the copyright expertise in partner institutions.
How much of my work will it include?
Although Economists Online will have a strong emphasis on current research output, we will also include your full publications list, including links to full text versions where this is possible. For a list of people contributing their work see: list of participating scholars
Will it involve a lot of time?
No. Libraries at participating institutions will carry out most of the work. When you deposit material in your repository, libraries will support you in doing so.
What’s in it for me?
Economists Online will increase the visibility of your work by collecting it in a single, cross-searchable portal with a focus on current, high quality research. The portal will also include your individual profile and complete publication list. Additionally, Economists Online content will appear in other economics search services as well as the large internet search engines, and we will seek to improve your rankings in all of these.
How do I deposit my work?
To find out more about how to deposit copies of your work and your publication list please contact your local project officer or if your organisation is not yet a member, the NEEO Project Manager.
