Universidad Carlos III Madrid Library

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was founded in 1989 with the objective of offering an efficient, high quality public service. A service which would further the Right to Education as it is set out in our Constitution.

A model of educational integration within the global, unifying concept of Science and Culture. The philosophy that has guided the University since its beginning is one of creating fully responsible, free-thinking people with sensitivity to social problems and an involvement in the concept of progress based on liberty, justice and tolerance.

In 2007 the academic staff amounted to 1,692 people for a student community of 16,900.

The University model is decentralized, located at 4 different campuses for Faculties of Social Sciences and Law, Humanities and Communication, High Polytechnic School and Tourism. Main campuses are located in the South industrial area of Madrid.

The Library provides services at every Campus with a total of 22,304 m2 for 2,143 study places and 342 desktops. The library also provides group and individual working rooms and learning workrooms for teachers.

Economics collection profile
The Economics collection began in 1990 at the same time as the establishment of the Economics Department.

Selection and acquisition comes from current funds, mainly original editions published in the last two years. The historical collections, in the case of monographs, basically come from private libraries. The retrospective serial collection is available by electronic access (i.e. JSTOR).

The collection includes, almost exclusively, documents published in USA, UK and Spain in the following subjects: General Economics, Macro and Microeconomics, Finance and taxation, Accountancy, Statistics and Econometrics, Economic History, Business, Labour and Welfare Economics.
