The CERGE-EI Library, established in 1992, has grown into a rich resource of economic literature and electronic information services. Today it is considered to be one of the best libraries of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe.
Since November 1994 it has also offered its services to the public. Its mission is to provide information services to the students and researchers of the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education and the Economics Institute (CERGE-EI), as well as to the general public.
The original collection was established in 1992, when CERGE of the Charles University and the new Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic combined resources. Both institutions have taken great advantage by teaming up the resources and creating the fundamental collection of CERGE-EI Library.. Since December 1994, the library has held the status of the Depository library of the World Bank and since 2002; the Library has served as the Depository library of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Collections
The CERGE-EI Library is a modern economics library with over 90,000 items in majority arranged in open stacks. Each year about 2,500 items are added to the collection. The main part of the collection is in the English language and reflects the teaching schedule, the research fields and programs of CERGE-EI and concentrates on the following subjects: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Mathematical Economics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economic Development, Transition in Central and Eastern Europe, and European Integration. The monograph collection consists of 25,000 volumes, arranged by DDC.

The periodicals collection holds 270 titles, primarily leading foreign journals, Czech economics periodicals and newspapers.
The Library also includes rare and special collections:
- World Bank, IMF and UNCTAD Collections
- Grey literature Collection (more than 10,500 working and discussion papers, research reports, published by world famous academic and scientific institutions of economics.
- Archive (CERGE dissertations, dissertations and research papers published by the former Economics Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Science, historical economics materials published before 1950).
- Statistical Publications Collection (Czech Statistical Office data and other national statistics of CEE as well as international statistics from organizations like the OECD, IMF, UN, ILO, and the EU).
- Bank Materials (materials published by Czech and foreign banks, including annual reports, statistical data, indicators and surveys.)
The electronic library
The Library offers a wide range of electronic information services. Over 600 full-text online journals are available in the E-Journal Collection. Access to e-journals is also possible via the library catalogue OLIB.
The Library provides access to bibliographic databases e.g. EconLit, Web of Knowledge), statistical databases (e.g. DSI Campus Solution, EIU Country Data, World Development Indicators), and full-text databases (e.g. JSTOR, EBSCOhost, EIU ViewsWire, Proquest 5000). A current list of databases with descriptions and direct links can be found at the library web site. Onelog Portal has been designed for remote access to the databases for registered users.
