Université Toulouse 1 Capitole (F)
The University Toulouse 1 Capitole boasts an age-old academic tradition which goes back to 1229. Achieving excellence in the field of research plays a central role at UT1, and it is the economics research teams in particular which are among the leading ones on an international level.
Brief history
Today, University buildings are available to 17,150 students, essentially in law, political sciences, economics and management. Documentation is shared between three main libraries (the Garrigou library, the Arsenal library and the Manufacture Library) and smaller ones in research centers.
Garrigou library is the oldest and is located in the historic buildings of Old faculties.
The Arsenal library was built in the seventies and has recently been renovated (2000).
The Manufacture library, established in 1996 in the renovated building of the former "Manufacture des tabacs", meets the needs for high-level users, especially in economics fields.
Collections
The libraries of University Toulouse 1 Capitole provide their users with about 1.5 m volumes, including 500,000 monographs and 7,500 printed journals.
Students and researchers also have access to about 40 electronic databases and to 17,000 electronic journals.
Digital Library Projects
- Toulouse 1 Capitole contribute to a collective catalogue with others universities in Toulouse, and also, at a national level, to the collective catalogue for French university libraries, the SUDOC (Système universitaire de documentation).
- Toulouse 1 Capitole libraries are in charge with providing online versions of theses written at the University.
- A digitisation program of old books from the libraries' collections is in progress
