The University of St. Gallen Library

The Library of the Graduate School of Business, Economics, Law and Social Sciences in St. Gallen was founded in 1898. Today, it is among Europe's leading business universities.

It provides resources for approximately 6,000 students and hundreds of researchers who are working at the university and in its many research institutes. From the outset the University St. Gallen has been characterized by standing close to the practice of the real world. This is reflected in the integrative approach of its study programs. The library is focused on the social sciences, law and especially on economics. Despite is relatively small overall size it has a very deep collection of documents and electronic resources in these particular subject areas.

Collections
The main holdings of the library comprise more than 410,000 books, approximately 70,000 E-Books, around 1,400 printed journals and access to over 15,000 subscribed electronic journals.
Our special collections include:

  • an archive of classic utopian literature
  • EDC, European Documentation Centre.
  • Alexandria, the research platform of the University of St. Gallen. It offers a repository with information on researchers, projects and publications at the University St. Gallen.
  • MOME, electronic access to more than 61,000 monographs from the period 1450-1850 with emphasis on economics, political philosophy and moral philosophy.

Electronic resources
In recent years the library has embarked on an extensive program to develop our electronic resources. We currently offer major research databases such as EBSCO-Business Source Premier, Science Direct (Elsevier), Factiva, Frost & Sullivan, Lexis Nexis, JSTOR, as well as important statistical databases like SourceOECD, Thomson One Banker, International Statistical Yearbook (ISY) and Statweb (Swiss Federal Statistics).
