ISEG School of Economics and Management
The library holds subscriptions to various online bibliographic databases, enabling access to the full texts from 10,089 journals.
Brief history
The School of Economics and Management (ISEG) was established in 1911. Originally called the School of Commerce, it was part of the Technical University of Lisbon, and the library, which was founded at this time, started off with 650 volumes.
Today, the library is housed in a building designed by the architect, Gonçalo Byrne. It was inaugurated in 1998 and named the Francisco Pereira de Moura Library (BFPM) in honour of one of ISEG’s most renowned teachers.
The Francisco Pereira de Moura Library provides technical support for teaching and research in the fields of economics and management, as well as in related fields such as mathematics, sociology, law and history. About 5000 readers - teachers, researchers and students - currently use the library.
Collections
The library collection includes monographs, journals and periodicals, working papers, and government publications, etc, principally in the fields of economics and management. It also holds an important collection of statistical records, which date back to its establishment.
The library holds subscriptions to various online bibliographic databases, enabling access to the full texts from 10,089 journals. It also has several numeric databases, which provide information on economic and financial indicators, the stock market, etc.
The library is part of the Portuguese group, Biblioteca do Conhecimento Online (Online Knowledge Library, B-ON), which involves all public Portuguese universities. This group provides online access to literature in all subject fields through 22,000 journals, 18,000 e-books and 19 content providers.
Institutional repositories
An institutional archive for ISEG was set up in October, 2008. In December of the same year this archive was integrated into the Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Portuguese Open Access Scientific Repository, RCAAP), a portal that provides common access to all Portuguese repositories. At the moment there are 1,374 items in the ISEG archive, including doctoral theses, Masters dissertations, research articles, conference papers, and working papers produced by ISEG faculty members and researchers.
Digital Library Projects
One of the library’s current projects is to digitalize all PhD theses and Masters dissertations, and there has been an important investment in electronic books with a subscription to MyiLibrary.
The Francisco Pereira de Moura Library is also host to World Bank documentation and houses the European Documentation Centre for the Technical University of Lisbon.
