Profile of the German National Library of Economics (ZBW)

Brief history
The German National Library of Economics (ZBW) is also the library of the Kiel Institute of World Economics. It has a staff of 98 FTE, serving ca. 7000 students. The Kiel Institute was founded in 1914, and the library became an independent department in 1919. The amount of material collected grew very fast and it was already in the 1930s when it belonged to one of the world's most comprehensive collections in economics. In 1966 the library received the status as "German National Library of Economics". With 2,7 million volumes of books and periodicals today, it is the worldwide largest special library dedicated to the field of economics.

EconDoc is an information portal mainly concerned with fulltext articles to German economics and business studies journals. Digizeitschriften deals with the digitization of important journals from the first volume onwards and making it available to researchers.
